CoE’s Research Activities: Heading towards next generation biobanking to fuel basic and translational research projects, and eventually achieve personalized medicine.
The Molecular Medicine Research Lab of the Centre of Excellence has been implementing pioneering work in the field of inherited kidney disorders, with local and international impact for more than 30 years. Currently, the CoE is expanding its activities to include multiple types of inherited disorders, as well as complex genetic traits segregating in the Cypriot population through a systematic bridging of biobanking and research.
A general overarching aim is the understanding of the molecular and cellular processes that cause disease, thereby anticipating and achieving better diagnosis, prevention, and therapy of disease.
There are several research projects running in the center that bring together genetic, molecular, cellular, and clinical approaches, including a preclinical model for a rare kidney disease.
