SNP-AQUA: Sustainable Aquaculture Initiative

Based on an idea proposed by Dr S. Nikouli, this interdisciplinary project was envisioned in partnership with Telia Aquamarine Fisheries and the Cyprus Ministry of Agriculture and focuses on enhancing the sustainability of aquaculture through advanced genetic screening. By making use of the CoE’s available infrastructure, a proposal has been submitted to a call announced by the local Department of Fisheries, with the objective of developing a specialized SNP panel to guide breeding strategies and achieve higher yields and more resilience to infections acquired by popular farmed fish species. This project exemplifies the Innovation Hub’s commitment to extending scientific expertise beyond human health applications into environmental and economic sustainability.
